How to Choose a CMMC Consultant
Most of the work in choosing a consultant is checking that a firm has done this before and being clear about what you are buying.
What to look for
- Documented experience with CMMC and NIST SP 800-171, ideally with companies similar to yours.
- Credentials you can check, such as Registered Practitioner Organization status in the Cyber AB Marketplace.
- A clear written scope, deliverables, and pricing model.
- Willingness to transfer knowledge so your team can maintain compliance afterward.
Questions to ask
- Who will do the work, and how much of it happens on site?
- What will we have in hand when the engagement ends?
- Can we speak to a client our size?
Local or remote
Much readiness work can be done remotely. A nearby firm helps when on-site work is needed, such as reviewing physical security or facilities that process CUI. You can browse consultants by state.
